Permanent Norland Nanny
A permanent Norland Nanny can work on a live-out (daily) or live-in (residential) basis, depending on your family’s needs and accommodation. A part-time nanny will work up to 50 hours per week. Full-time hours are between 50-60 hours per week.
A live-out Norland Nanny generally works 10-hour days, has their own accommodation outside of the family home and travels to and from your house every day.
A live-in Norland Nanny generally works up to 12 hours per day and their accommodation is provided by the family. As a minimum the family should be able to offer the nanny their own bedroom, ideally with their own bathroom. Self-contained accommodation is preferable.
It is important that your nanny has time off to ensure that they do not get over tired and therefore offer the best care for your children. Monday to Friday roles with weekends off tend to be more popular and we do have some nannies looking for part-time positions. If you require 24-hour childcare, we may recommend that you consider employing more than one nanny on a rota basis.

Temporary nanny, proxy parent or event nanny
Temporary nanny
Temporary positions range from a one-day event up to 13 weeks and can be on a full– or part–term basis to fit your needs. Temporary Norland Nannies are based all over the country and we may already have temporary nannies looking in your area. If you are able to offer accommodation for the nanny, this will widen the pool of nannies available and therefore increase the chances of the Agency being able to find a temporary Norland Nanny to fill your vacancy.
Proxy parent
A proxy parent’s responsibilities are similar to those of a nanny, but in the absence of the parent(s) for 24 hours a day. The proxy parent has sole responsibility for the running of the house, care of any pets, liaison with other staff etc. Some proxy parenting can be stipulated in a nanny’s contract if the parents are away regularly (e.g. for work) and do not wish to disrupt a child’s routine, or a proxy parent can be employed on a temporary basis to care for children during the short term absence of parents.
Event nanny
Attending events like weddings with your children can be great fun. They can also be quite stressful, sometimes leaving you with little time to relax and enjoy the event yourself. A great solution to this dilemma is to employ a Norland Nanny to help look after your children during an event. You are then free to enjoy yourself knowing that your children are safe and having fun. Whether you’re planning or attending a wedding, christening or family party, one of our event nannies will create the perfect environment for happy children and happy parents.
In order to help settle your children we ask that you bring familiar toys and games for them that the nanny can use during the event. Depending on the timings of your event, please also be aware that you will need to ensure that meals, snacks and drinks are available, as appropriate, for the children and for the nanny.

Maternity practitioner
A Norland maternity practitioner is a fully qualified Norland Nanny who has a minimum of one year’s nannying experience and is either qualified through experience or has completed a maternity practitioners course focusing specifically on the care of newborn babies and new families.
Responsibilities
A Norland maternity practitioner usually works 24 hours a day for 5 or 6 days a week, usually for a period of several weeks ranging to several months. They help care for the newborn baby or babies and provide support and guidance to the family.
They work 24 hours per day and tend to sleep in the same room as the baby or babies at night so that they can manage or help with the night feeds. If the baby is being breast fed, the maternity practitioner can bring the baby or babies to the mother to be fed and then resettle the baby or babies afterwards.
A maternity practitioner will work with the family supporting them in the care of their newborn(s), including, when appropriate, giving guidance and support on techniques for bathing, feeding (either breast or bottle) and routines to suit the family’s lifestyle.
Points to note
It is normal practice for a maternity practitioner to request a deposit (a holding fee). The deposit is usually equivalent to two weeks of their fee and is paid at the time of the booking being confirmed and then deducted from the final invoice. Should the baby or babies arrive after the agreed start date, the maternity nurse is usually paid a retainer fee (a waiting fee). This fee is normally 50% of the contracted daily or weekly fee. Depending on the circumstances during this time, the maternity practitioner may be happy to provide their services to help with any older children.
In the event of a premature birth, your booked maternity practitioner may not be available to start earlier than planned, however Norland Agency will do all it can to find another maternity practitioner to fill in until your booked maternity practitioner can start.
When working 24 hours a day, families must recognise that the maternity practitioner will need a rest break. Norland recommends giving a minimum of three hours rest break per 24-hour period.
Maternity practitioner rates vary according to the practitioner’s experience and whether they are responsible for a single baby, twins or higher multiples. Maternity practitioners are self-employed and are responsible for paying their own tax and National Insurance.
