Holly’s story
Having always wanted to work with children and considered being a teacher, second-year student Holly (Set 43) reflects on how attending a Norland open day made her realise that this is where she wanted to study. She discusses the balance between theory and practice, her ambitions for the future and being a part of almost 130 years of history at Norland.
“Through Norland, I really have found my love of learning. I think it’s because it’s something I’m truly passionate about. At school, I wasn’t really into all of the subjects and so to come here and be solely focused on the early years is fabulous. The understanding I’ve gained through learning and engaging with teaching has really helped me in my practice so it has collaboratively worked together to mean that I can better myself as a person.
“What I love about Norland and what I find really valuable is the opportunity to put theory into practice. We do the classroom-based learning and then we go out to placement and see our practice and theory in place.
It’s a privilege to be here and it’s an incredible opportunity. It’s a door to so many other doors and opportunities. It’s the next step in both my personal journey and my professional journey in being the best person I can be.”
