“If you are passionate about working with children, there is no better place to study than Norland” – Hannah’s story
With a total student body of around 300 students, Hannah (Set 42) has come to see her Norland course mates as a second family and part of a tight-knit community that helps students achieve their goals.
“After studying A Levels in French, psychology and drama, I began to study for a BSc in Psychology at the University of Exeter but, after my first year, I realised that my passion lay in child psychology and working with children. Therefore, I chose to take a gap year, during which I worked as a nursery nurse before being offered a job as a private nanny for a three-year-old girl and a newborn baby in London. This job opened my eyes to the magic of caring for little ones and I applied to Norland with the dream of training to be the best early years practitioner possible.”
“Coming to Norland was the best decision I have ever made, and I cannot recommend studying here enough. With everyone working so hard for the same goal, the support, care and love from all students and staff creates the most intimate and wonderful environment to study in.”
“Due to only having 300 students at Norland, the sense of family community is strong with many lifelong friendships always being made. As well, with two other big universities in the city, we have friends at the University of Bath and Bath Spa. Norland doesn’t compare to other big universities as it offers such a unique and special course, with an incredible level of support and care. We all feel so comfortable to go to any member of staff with any problem, whether it be personal, professional or academic. With such caring lecturers, as well as the wonderful counsellors and fellow students, you are never alone, and support is always available at any time of the day.
“Upon graduating from Norland, I hope to move to London to work as a nanny, before travelling with the job for a few years. After, I have a dream of setting up my own business, as well as writing children’s books. The degree is so diverse, covering so many aspects of childcare which truly do give you the control to shape your own future and career.
“Despite only commencing my second year of study in September, Norland has already benefitted my career with some amazing job opportunities. I spent this summer nannying in Oxford, Somerset and London, private villa nannying in Mallorca and maternity nursing in Sussex. Norland prepares you to be the very best in your field – you are supported to feel confident to apply for all jobs, to offer the highest quality service and to complete each job to the highest standards.
“If you are passionate about working with children, there is no better place to study than Norland. It is hard work but putting in the hours and effort now only teaches you how to be the best Norland Nanny possible. By working hard and living up to the college’s expectations, you carry the Norland name with pride and open up a realm of possibilities for your own future.”
