Elspeth Pitman Norland Diploma, BSc (Hons), MBPsS, MSc, FHEA, PGCAP - Head of Graduates: Placements, Employment and Alumni

Elspeth is the Head of Graduates: Placements, Employment and Alumni at Norland and part of the Strategic Leadership Team. Her current role involves leading, coordinating, developing and enhancing the work of the Newly Qualified Nanny (NQN), Norland Agency for qualified Norland Nannies and Alumni teams. As part of this role, she also oversees the Professional Association of Norlanders (PAN) and the Norlander continuing professional development (CPD) programme.

Elspeth joined Norland in 2012 as a BA Lecturer and helped to design a new curriculum on both the BA (Hons) in Early Development and Learning and the Norland diploma. Alongside this she gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and Fellowship of The Higher Education Academy. Since then, she has worked as an Early Years Consultant at Norland supporting and training qualified Norlanders in their work, as well as carrying out training or projects for external companies and clients. As part of this role, she was invited to teach in Japan for a nursery and nanny provider and review policies for global companies amongst other things. Following this she became the Newly Qualified Nanny Manager, training, supporting and assessing our students in relation to employment as a nanny especially in their first year of nannying, the NQN year. Elspeth has had blog and magazine articles published for both nannies and parents.

Elspeth is a Norlander herself and graduated from Norland in 2003. Following the start of her career as a nanny, Elspeth continued to follow her passion of working with families and went on to work in the NHS and Sure Start Children’s Centres as a Community Nursery Nurse. She was then promoted to Project Leader of a multi-disciplinary team in relation to health promotion and working with families.

Elspeth has an International Montessori Teaching Diploma and a qualification as a Maternity Practitioner, and more recently completed an MSc in Psychology of Education (BPS), gaining accreditation with the British Psychological Society, focusing her dissertation on sleep in children, which has been a particular interest over her career.
